Antequera Church in Bohol

Located in the town center of Antequera in Bohol, the Antequera Church is one of the many reasons why locals and foreigners continue to visit the municipality. It was established in 1880 and was made from tabique pampango and other light materials.

Today, the present Antequera Church is new and ordinary. It is made from concrete but the design is based from older churches. It is now named as Nuestra Señora del Rosario Parish (Our Lady of the Rosary).

Other reasons why people visit Antequera is because of its diverse kind of heritage. Even until today, traditional basketry is still one of the main livelihoods in the town. Basketry is an ancient art form and archaeologists believed that basket making preceded weaving. The majority of beautiful baskets found in the Visayas and even in Luzon, come from Bohol. All imaginable forest material is made into baskets which are available wholesale or retail at the Sunday morning market at Antequera.

On one side of the Antequera Church is Christ the King Acadamy, a school recognized by the Local Government Unit. The other side of the church is the Municipal Hall fronting the small park where a large basket, about 15 meters long and 10 meters wide, is being displayed. Miniature houses made from basketry materials can also be seen in the park.

Antequera Church is located about 17 kilometers north of Tagbilaran City.
