One of the three operational wharves in Camiguin, Philippines is the Balbagon Port. It is located in barangay Balbagon, 2-3 kilometers going east from the town center of Mambajao. Balbagon Port caters ships coming from Cebu and Jagna, Bohol. The Super Shuttle Ferry (telephone number: +63 32 2323150) from Cebu to Camiguin travels every Friday at 8pm. That same boat leaves Camiguin to Cebu every Sunday at 8pm. The estimated travel time from/to Cebu/Camiguin is 12 hours. Trips from/to Bohol is daily and the travel time is 4 hours.
The Balbagon Port was developed as a part of the Central Nautical Highway, a program of the Philippine National Government. It is less than 100 meters away from Bahay-Bakasyunan sa Camiguin (BBC) when walking along the beach. But since access to the road is easier than walking along the rocky beach, one can reach BBC in a 5 minutes’ walk from Balbagon Port. Alternatively, one can take a tricycle which offers a crazy price to tourists at P10-P20/person for a 1 minute travel. When going to a nearby area or to Mambajao town center, the standard minimum fare is only P7. When a “motorela” (three/four wheel vehicle powered by a motorcycle) or multi-cab asks a very high fare, just opt to walk to the main road and find another one.
