Carmelite Monastery in Bukidnon

One of the less complicated houses of prayer with magnificent garden in the Philippines is the Carmelite Monastery in Bukidnon. It is one of the few Carmelite homes in the country which obviously houses Carmelite Nuns or Carmelite Sisters. It is a sanctuary of peace and prosperity which usually caters recollections/retreats and other forms of self-renewal and prayer. The well maintained flora adds to the delight of one which visits the Carmelite Monastery be it a day or a night.

Beautiful view of some of the mountains of Bukidnon is experienced at the Carmelite Monastery. The abundant Bermuda grasses, plants and trees, including Pine trees, keep the air fresh and supplements to ones spirituality when inside this house of prayer. It is the perfect place for reflections and moments of pondering something deep. Those who prefer to simply get away from the busy city life can relax and meditate in this place too.

There’s a daily mass at 6:15am. The choir is composed of the finest Carmelite Nuns with voices slightly similar to angels (even if I haven’t heard one yet). The soft voices of the priests and the Carmelite Sisters make the mass very solemn and more intimate with God. Silence at all times is always encouraged so you can hear the voice of God when you speak to him by heart.

The Nativity

Outside the main Carmelite Monastery gate is a small area where prayers and offerings to the Amigos de Nossa Senhora are held every 13^th day of the month. Statues of Mother Mary, Risen Jesus, and The Nativity can be seen inside.

The Carmelite Monastery is located in Pal-ing, Barangay Kalasungay, about 5 kilometers south of the city center of Malaybalay. From the corner of the road, there’s a big sign that will lead you to the place. Nearby is the Pope John XXIII College Seminary which is also worth visiting and giving some donations for their advocacies.
