Danao’s Plunge: Conquer your fear of heights

Many of us often feel a spinning sensation when we are on an elevation or in great heights. We feel fearful and often find ourselves going back to the ground level rather than conquering it. Termed as Acrophobia, the fear of heights may vary from person to person. Most of us experience a degree of natural fear when exposed to heights, especially if there is little or no protection. Those who are confident in such situations may be said to have a head for heights, according to Wikipedia.

The Plunge

The Plunge

One of the best ways to conquer your fear is to visit this new tourist attraction in Bohol. In the town of Danao, a 3-hour drive from Tagbilaran City, you will get to experience one of the most daring adventures in the country – the “Plunge“. Often mistaken as a bungee jump, the plunge is a canyon swing adventure mounted over a 200-meter high and 300-meter wide gorge. The person will be harnessed in a super strong cable, which has a capacity of 5 tons, and do a 45-meter (3 to 4 second) free-fall. After the free fall, the person will act like a pendulum swinging in a 100-meter diameter. For those who want more adrenalin, they can choose the 70-meter cable, which will swing at a diameter of 140 meters. Below is a video of my wife, Lisa, taking the plunge.

The plunge will literally “take your breath away”. It is one of the few “extreme” adventures in the country, which provides a certificate, after you experience it. At a price of P700 per jump, you will surely make this as one of your most unforgettable moments. You will appreciate life even more after you feel defenseless and alone for a few seconds in the air. Closing your eyes during the free-fall is a good idea to minimize the fear but watching the ground may be more satisfying once you are in safe place. It will be your “Fear Factor” moment and you will surely share the experience with your friends and families.

Managed by the Government of Danao in Bohol, the EAT Danao activities including the Cable Car Ride (Sky Ride) and the Zipline (Suislide) are regularly checked and maintained by trained professionals. Your safety is their main concern because the park will surely close if there are reported fatalities. Be sure you listen to the instructions and follow it to avoid any untoward incidents. Your payments are for the scholarship of many of the workers in the park as well as the improvement of the area. If you feel bored right now or you simply want to try an extreme adventure, try the Plunge in Bohol and you will surely remember this for the rest of your life. It can accommodate 50 persons in a day and the total experience will just take around 10 minutes. Be sure to reserve your slots ahead or early in the morning.
