Davao Butterfly House

Want to be more intimate with nature? Davao Butterfly House is perfect for you. Unlike the Davao Crocodile Park, which housed exotic crocodiles, tigers and other wild animals, located a couple of hundred meters away, Davao Butterfly House is the home to the more peaceful and colorful butterflies in Davao, Philippines. It is where nature lovers and children of all ages fascinate themselves to the many wonders and discoveries about the butterflies.

Aside from exhibiting live and colorful butterflies to the public, Davao Butterfly House at the Learning Garden is also breeding them so that these butterflies can help in the pollination and make Davao City blossom flowering plants and invite more domestic and foreign visitors. It will take 1 month for Davao Butterfly House to produce butterflies from eggs. The average butterfly can live up to two weeks and everyday there are old ones who die and new ones coming out from the pupae.

Inside the Davao Butterfly House are abundant plants and flowers cultivated by human and assisted by the butterflies through pollination. It also houses fishes, crickets, tarantulas and scorpions. The exotic animals are caged inside a glass container for viewing purposes only. Petting them is discreetly allowed by the management of Davao Butterfly House.

According to Davao Butterfly House, mornings with good sunshine is the best time to observe the butterflies in flight. Highlights of activities include hatching, courtship and mating. During the heat of the day, many species take shelter under the leaves. This is a good chance to observe them closely and take photographs. With clouds or late in the afternoon, they hide. Observe carefully because many species camouflage well with their surroundings.

Outside Davao Butterfly House is a children’s playground where both adults and children rest and enjoy after the tour. There’s also a souvenir shop which sells hats, bracelets, necklaces, shirts, umbrellas and a lot more that you can give to your friends when you back to your hometown. Dragon fruit which is also known as the Red Pitaya sells for P200. Ice creams, shakes and beverages can be bought and enjoyed outside.
