Brgy. Malagos in Calinan, Davao, Philippines is not just a home of the Philippine Eagle Center where it housed the Endangered Philippine Eagles. It is also where the famous Malagos Garden Resort is located.

Malagos Garden Resort is a 12-13 hectare inland nature themed park ornamented with century old durian tree. One could feel the cool mountain breeze while on the resort just like when you do nature trekking at Kan-irag Nature Park in Cebu City.

While on Malagos Garden Resort one can enjoy planting waling-waling (the rarest and most beautiful orchids in the Philippines), bird feeding, butterfly release, horseback riding and kalesa ride, playing billiards, table tennis, darts, badminton, basketball and volleyball. It is a place where people can unwind, relax and be close to nature. Here, people can forget about the busy city life and definitely would relieve them from stress.

Malagos Garden Resort caters seminars, parties, team buildings, weddings and other special occasions. In fact they offer seminar packages for as low as P1,280.00/person full board which includes room accommodation, use of function hall, sound system, free wifi and others. They also have 3 wedding packages to choose from that suit your budget. Not only that, they also offer fun learning activities in Malagos Garden Resort such as the interactive bird show, animal encounters and the butterflies and moths. So you’re not just relaxing but also learning.

Malagos Garden Resort also offers tour packages such as tour around Malagos for 7 hours which include going to The Philippine Eagle Center and the price ranges from P1,750.00/pax to P2,750.00/pax depending on how many pax are going. They also have the sightseeing at Malagos which is a half-day countryside tour and prices ranges from P1,250.00/pax to P2,150/pax. You can also avail their Malagos highlight tour which will bring you to two of Davao’s must see tourist attraction – The Philippine Eagle Center and the Malagos Garden Resort for P1,400.00 to P2,350.00 per person. If you’re interested in different kinds of flowers, you would surely enjoy their bloom and nature tour which will give you the opportunity to see the different kinds of orchids and plant the famous waling-waling for P3,500.00 to P2,400.00 per person.

Just like any other garden resort, Malagos Garden Resort is equipped with hotel facilities in a nature environment. It has 21 standard cottages which can accommodate 4 to 5 guests for P2,400/room/night inclusive of breakfast good for four guests. Delux cottages can accommodate 6 to 10 guests for P3,300.00/room/night inclusive of breakfast for 6 guests. They also have 2 superior rooms which can accommodate 6 to 10 guests for P4,200.00/room/night inclusive of breakfast for 6 guests. Their Narra Cottage has 2 big rooms that can accommodate 50 guests each room for P350.00/person/night maximum of 25 persons per room.

Other than the resort and its amenities, Malagos Garden Resort grow Bignay Berries and manufactured it into wines inside their resort.

How to get there

Malagos Garden Resort is around 27 kilometers from the city center of Davao which is a 30-45 minutes ride depending on the traffic. You can either reach the area by private or public vehicle. They offer transfer from Davao International Airport to Malagos Garden Resort and vice versa. Alternatively, you can ride a cab or take the bus or L300 van in Bangkerohan for P40.00/person going to Calinan. When you reached Calinan, look for a motorcycle for hire that will take you to the garden resort. This usually cost P10.00/person.

Abueva in the Gardens

It is a rare sculptural art exhibit of National Artist Napoleon Abueva’s finest works at the Malagos Garden Resort, Calinan, Davao City which started August 8, 1997.

It is a joint project of the Puentespina Family and Abueva Family. For the first time, Abueva’s pieces are exhibited outside Metro Manila and placed in a garden setting amidst the landscape of the resort. The Reort is now the temporary home of over 60 sculptures of the National Artist.
