Sillon Cave, Bantayan

A less attractive tourist spot found in the island of Bantayan is the Sillon Cave. It is situated in Barangay Sillon, town of Sta. Fe. 30-40 minutes from the port of Sta. Fe and the southeastern beaches. The Sillon Cave holds many wonders which until now townsfolk haven’t figured out yet.

Sillon Cave is in a secluded area found 2 kilometers away from the main road and there are no signs going to it. Asking for directions from locals is the usual thing tourists do. Once you reach the walkway going to the cave, just leave your vehicle on the road side and then walk for 5 minutes. Be sure to visit the place during morning so you won’t have a hard time seeing the road as there are no lights provided and walking during the night using a flashlight might give you goose bumps and eerie feelings.

Because locals are protecting and maintaining this cave, they will be asking you for a P10 entrance fee. The cave is surrounded by a bamboo fence and the rocks outside the cave opening are quite sharp. Stepping down the cave is a bit challenging, some people opt not to go inside anymore. Those who have shortness of breath and heart problems are advised not to get inside. Once inside the cave, be careful of flying bats and slippery stones. When you step on the biggest stone overlooking the pool, you will have a mysterious feelings and asking yourself what’s inside and what’s farther away.

Not as wonderful as Hinagdanan Cave in Panglao or Bukilat Cave in Camotes, Sillon Cave also have stalactites and stalagmites. Stalactites are more prominent and the water coming from it dipped to the pool which some locals and tourist enjoyed bathing. Sad to say we didn’t try the icy-cool waters inside the cave because the step going down is very steep and we don’t have a light other than a flashlight which might lost its power in the middle of fun and will cause fear or apprehension to the group.

Outside Sillon Cave, one can see the overlooking view of Silion Island and Hilantaga-an Island. A nipa shade is also available for those who want to relax and enjoy the cool breeze of air while looking at the beautiful surroundings .
