Kapuntukan Hill

Popularly known by Legazpiños (people of Legazpi City) as the Sleeping Lion Hill, the Kapuntukan Hill is one of the best places to see a panoramic view of Legazpi City in Albay, Philippines and the towering Mayon Volcano. It is located about 500 meters from the Port of Legazpi and it is adjacent to Embarcadero de Legazpi, a lifestyle hub and shopping center in the heart of the city.

The Kapuntukan Hill is fondly named as the Sleeping Lion Hill because of its shape – and it can be easily remembered by tourists after they visit the place.

A 360 degree view of Albay Gulf is experienced on top of the hill and the nearby Rapu-Rapu Island to the east can be seen on a clear day. Most locals and tourists visit the place during times when the sun is near the horizon. Visiting the top of Kapuntukan Hill on mid-day may be very perspiring.

Currently the area of Kapuntukan Hill is being developed. To make it a more tourist-friendly destination, the authorities decided to smoothen the rough road that leads to the peak.

Because of its picturesque and panoramic view of Legazpi, the peak is one of the favorite destinations of photographers and nature lovers.

Comparable to Ligñon Hill near Legazpi Airport, the Kapuntukan Hill will soon become one of the main icons of Legazpi City, a city named after Miguel López de Legazpi, the Spanish conquistador who conquered the Philippine islands in 1565, and whose family name came from Legazpi, a town in Guipuzcoa, Spain.
